I'm not much into shopping, at least not at these types of places,(used book stores and thrift stores are a whole other matter), but this making me a little misty-eyed, thinking about when I lived in Rosarito and Ensenada and had to make FMM renewal border runs every 6 months. Always did the same little ritual: Wells Fargo on san ysidro Blvd. For 6 months of rent (had to pay in dollar money orders), play around at guitar center for an hour or so, then Charley's Cheesesteaks and maybe a bit of a walk around the stores, then through the big gate that always made me feel like I was being released from prison, walk to the bus station, and back on the bus to Ensenada. Charley's Cheesesteaks will always be the taste of America to me. 😢

Taxi scammed me a few times, mostly when i'm in a rush. Might go grab next time. Also got "helped" by a Manila airport security guy I think, he grabbed my luggage and took off then asked for a tip. Had a few good yellow taxi guys though with a meter too. I tipped them extra for honesty.

Thanks for this! I grew up in Poway (PHS class of 1997) and my folks still live there. The trails around Lake Poway are great but once you get away from the flatter parts they can get really challenging really quickly. The trailhead at Blue Sky Ranch (very close to Lake Poway) leads to some really beautiful riparian and chaparral areas. Be careful for ticks, especially if you bring your dogs. There is a lot of debate about the best taco shops in Poway and everyone has their own favorites. Tony Gwynn was a great guy and was so supportive to the community. The Blink 182 guys went to Poway High and were seniors when I was a freshman. I remember seeing a poster for a concert of theirs to play at our little theater and thinking "they won't make it" - but what do I know? The Poway Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings are great. Poway is a quiet suburb, and it came into existence in the 1970s so that the County of San Diego would be blocked from putting a giant freeway (the 94 Freeway, I think) through the community. It's a little off the beaten path but was a great place to grow up. Now I live in a big city (a giant behemoth of a city 100 miles north of Poway that belches smog - you can guess) but Poway always has a special place in my heart.

Vegas was cheaper, safer and more fun when the mob ran it.

The best thing to do Jay when we're all in Las Vegas is to hunt off strip for good food and do some research online to find good restaurants depending on what you want to eat, the strip just costs to much for food nowadays 🤔 😋 and the service is only so so.. just my two cents, we'll catch you on the next one 😋 😉 P.S. I used to live in Texas decades ago and was never impressed with whataburger it was just dry and not good, by the way there are a lot of village pubs off strip that have way better service the one at Ellis island has a bad rap hope that helps for next time

Wait?? Whataburger has pizza now?? Is this just a Vegas thing? I travel from Oregon to Texas once a year and hit up every Whataburger along the way cause we don't have it in the NW, lol. Also how you gonna miss Taco bell on the strip if you're talking about cheap eats :P

Man you missed so many places. EI also has a steak and egg special for $9.99 from 11pm -7am. Stage Door has a HOT DOG and a beer for $3.50. Ocean One has $5.99 lunch deals. Blondies and La Salsa both have breakfast deals under $8.00. White Castle and the Foot Long HOT DOG place in Casino Royale have cheap eats as well. B Dubs has all you can eat wings and fries for $20.00. In N Out has very cheap prices compared to other burger joints on the strip. Gen Korean BBQ is a bargain at $35.00 for KBBQ, Sushi, and Apps all included.
